Welcome to Cumberland Lake

Lake Cumberland is one of the largest man-made bodies of water east of the Mississippi River. A vacationer's paradise, Lake Cumberland covers over 63,000 acres. Its waters touch over 1,255 miles of shoreline with an average depth of 90 feet. Russell County can introduce you to all that Lake Cumberland has to offer. With an abundance of commercial marinas, launching ramps, motels, restaurants, boat rentals, Lake Cumberland State Resort Park and a variety of campsites. Russell County can help make your water wonderland vacation a memorable lifetime event.

There are four commercial marinas on Lake Cumberland; boat rentals from fishing boats to state of the art houseboats; lakeside restaurants; motels; Lake Cumberland State Resort Park; and much, much more. Guests to Lake Cumberland can take a scenic horseback ride, feed the trout at the Wolf Creek National Fish Hatchery or catch a show at the historic Star Theater, a 1950's vintage movie theater with seasonal plays, musical productions, and the annual performance of "The Nutcracker." Russell County is home to two 18 hole golf courses: The Links Public Golf Course and Lakewood Country Club.

For the fishing enthusiast we offer trophy size stripers and hold state records for brown and rainbow trout and walleye. And speaking of walleye, Lake Cumberland hosted the 1995 and 1996 Walleye "Quest" Championship. Walleye fishermen invaded Lake Cumberland in search of that $50,000 walleye. For antique and craft lovers, we have several shops to fascinate you in Russell Springs and Jamestown. Visit an old fashioned soda shop in Russell Springs or Jamestown to refresh while shopping. Check our calendar of events to see what's going on or to plan your visit to Lake Cumberland. Russell County hosts festivals and events, drawing thousands of visitors and featuring a variety of displays, tournaments, foods, and more. Lakefest gets things started with a bang Fourth of July weekend! Russell County Fair in late July is considered by many to be the biggest and best county fair in the state. For bargain hunters, the 450-mile U.S. Hwy. 127 Outdoor Sale goes through the county in August; The Harvest Festival in the fall and Lake Cumberland State Park's annual New Years Eve Dinner and Dance closes our year with a flourish.

For those of you who don't like the confinement of four walls and like to rough it, there are many campsites to choose from, or you may camp anywhere along the shoreline. If you like watching birds, viewing deer, and other wildlife, you may want to take the bike/walking trail at Kendall Recreation Area. The trail winds past a trout stream, over a 60 - ft. bridge and into The Pines Wildlife Management Area. While there, be sure to visit the Information Center at Wolf Creek Dam and the powerhouse.
