Welcome to Lake Nacimiento Nacimiento was built in the 1950s by Monterey County, even though it is located in San Luis Obispo County. It was built for flood control and to provide farmers in the Salinas Valley good summertime water. Centrally located between San Francisco and Los Angeles, Lake Nacimiento is one of Central Californias most beautiful lakes. The lake is 16 miles long with 165 miles of coves and inlets of towering pine and shady oaks scattered among the grassy slopes of San Luis Obispo County. Lake Nacimiento is famous for its great White Bass fishing, and is the only lake in California stocked with these fiesty fighters. The lake also holds a good population of largemouth, smallmouth, crappie, catfish, and bluegill.
